Xiersen Connect: A Day of Bonding and Learning at Dream Coffee

On November 17, 2023, Xiersen had the incredible privilege of organizing a team-building day for the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai at Dream Coffee in Pudong—a perfect backdrop for a day of bonding, learning, and delightful coffee. This initiative aimed not only to strengthen team dynamics but also to deepen connections with the special needs community.

Founded in 2019, Dream Coffee stands as Shanghai's first supportive employment base for young people with intellectual disabilities. The inspiring café, staffed by graduates of the Pudong New Area Special Education School, serves as a canvas for these special individuals to integrate into society and become self-reliant. It also serves as a window for others to see how hardworking and amazing these individuals truly are.

The day kicked off with an insightful introduction to Dream Coffee, shedding light on its mission and the incredible staff who play a pivotal role in the establishment. Next, the consulate staff team were tested on their knowledge of coffee through an interactive trivia session. Dream Coffee staff not only shared fascinating facts behind coffee's history but also showcased their passion for the craft.

Subsequently, the consulate staff divided into two groups for hands-on experiences led by the skilled Dream Coffee team. One group expressed their artistic skills through a hand-painted linen bag activity, while another delved into the world of coffee art with an inspiring latte art tutorial. Amidst the activities, consulate staff marveled at a talented individual who self-taught himself the piano and could play hundreds of songs from memory, leaving us all impressed.

To cap off the day, the group gathered outside for a photo, capturing a meaningful keepsake of the day's shared experiences.“The cafe is a wonderfully warm space where people of all abilities are accepted and valued. It is a reminder to not give up when you think society does not see your true worth. Everybody should look for the space where your merits are appreciated.
